Over the Thanksgiving holiday, the carpenters of New York City distributed 2,500 turkeys, totaling more than $75,000, to help feed the local community.
“We hope that our events can provide some relief and joy to members of our community during the holidays,” said Joseph Geiger, executive secretary-treasurer for the District Council of Carpenters.
Throughout the month of November, the New York City and Vicinity District Council of Carpenters (NYCDCC) and the Carpenter Contractor Alliance of Metropolitan New York coordinated turkey donation events across the city.
“Our union is committed to building a state-of-the-art skyline, but we’re also driven to building our communities up. Every day, but especially on Thanksgiving, we strive to uphold our core values by helping families in need,” said Geiger.
From Nov. 14 to Nov. 22, the initiative saw more than 2,500 turkeys donated at 18 different events, including three events in Brooklyn.
“Giving back to our community is always important, but during the holidays especially, we should all come together and uplift our communities. Thank you to union carpenters and contractors for upholding these values and hosting these incredibly meaningful events for Brooklyn families,” Brooklyn Council Member Sandy Nurse said.
Donations were made possible through the partnership of the following individuals:

- Union Carpenters and Contractors
“I’m so grateful to the members of the District Council of Carpenters for their dedication to serving our city,” council member Crystal Hudson said.
“It brought me so much joy to support our shared Brooklyn community alongside them this Thanksgiving by distributing 100 turkeys to our neighbors at Farragut Houses, Whitman Houses, Lafayette Gardens and Atlantic Terminal.”
