FRIDAY
WHAT: Bed-Stuy concept store SEED Brklyn opens with day of events

SEED Brklyn, a multi-retail, lifestyle, speakeasy café and experiential art space will open to the public for the first time on Oct. 21. SEED Brklyn plans to welcome the block with three days of public and private programming and events.
During the day, shoppers can stop by to view the space, sample SEED’s menu offerings while listening to the sounds the hottest DJs. Later in the evening, SEED will debut “SEED THE BLOCKCHAIN,” an art exhibition featuring artists and designers Vince Fraser, Shay the Surrealist, Dante Beals and Ceej Vega.
WHAT: Spooky-fun "Nightfall: Eternal Returns" at the Green-Wood Cemetery

WHAT: Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival

Reel Sisters will celebrate its 25th anniversary retrospective with films like Nappy, a classic Black hair film directed by Lydia Ann Douglas, The Red Pill by Tonya Pinkins and newer works by women of color. The festival, which begins on Saturday and runs all weekend, will also feature a lecture series and panel discussion about the future of Black cinematography.
Founded in 1997 by African Voices magazine and LIU Brooklyn Campus, Reel Sisters is among the first film festivals dedicated to supporting women of color filmmakers. Known for celebrating both veterans and rising stars alike, Reel Sisters has honored everyone from Radio One founder Cathy Hugues to HBO’s Insecure writer and director Issa Rae.

Join us at this year’s Van Alen Block Party — a day of food, music, and dancing in the streets! Free and open to the public, the Van Alen Block Party showcases the creative energy of Gowanus and celebrates the power of bringing people together.

An enchanting and whimsical production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s iconic musical "Into the Woods" comes to Brooklyn for a limited engagement at The Heights Players —Brooklyn’s longest-running theater.
The musical is presented as part of the theater’s 67th season. Spells, magic beans, princes, royal balls, and giants abound in this modern musical classic about love, family, and the things we wish for. Directed by Hilary Goldman.

This event takes place outdoors, but the rain location is on the Martha A. and Robert S. Rubin Pavilion on the 1st floor of the museum.
