Here's What You Missed at the First-Ever Brooklyn Changemakers Ball

Activists Alicia Garza and Ai-jen Poo were honored presenters at the event.

Community-led action was in the limelight at the Brooklyn Community Foundation’s inaugural ball.

On Oct. 12, BCF held its first Brooklyn Changemakers Ball at the Weylin, an event venue in Williamsburg.

Activists Alicia Garza, Ai-jen Poo and the chair of the foundation, Alan Fishman, spoke throughout the evening. Garza is the co-founder of the Black Lives Matter movement, and Poo is the president of the National Domestic Workers Alliance.

Notable guests included e-commerce founders Carley Roney and David Liu, as well as comedian Hari Kondabolu.

BCF is the first and only public foundation solely dedicated to Brooklyn’s charitable community, working in partnership with donors and community leaders to invest in racial justice and community-led change.

All of the funds raised at the event will go toward the Community Foundation’s initiatives.
