After months of anticipation, Slutty Vegan, will open its first New York City outpost in Fort Greene on September 17.
Slutty Vegan, known for its cheekily-named burgers made with Impossible Meat, will open this fall, the eatery announced on Instagram. This is the first outpost outside of Georgia for the so-called "hottest vegan concept in the country."
"I had a restaurant here, lost it to a grease fire, went completely flat broke so this is a really big homecoming for me," the eatery's CEO and founder, Pinky Cole, said on Good Morning America, alluding to her first-ever restaurant in Harlem that closed in 2016 due to a fire.
Just two years later, Cole started Slutty Vegan out of her apartment. She managed vegan burger orders over Instagram and by 2018 she opened her first storefront, which quickly became a hit.
Now the vegan-burger-empire is beloved by celebrities and regularly has out-the-door lines of people. And Cole has also devoted her time to creating a Black-owned plant based empire by empowering Black entrepreneurs and giving back to her local community.
Slutty Vegan's soon-to-open Fort Greene outpost is also a full-circle moment for the neighborhood, since its storefront on the corner of Fulton Street and South Portland Avenue will replace another vegan eatery, the Broccoli Bar, which closed in February after a two-year run.
"It's an honor to be opening a concept in such an established space, just down the street from where Biggie Smalls grew up, and to bring more delicious vegan food to the Brooklyn community," Cole stated.
