Brooklyn leaders are reacting to the Supreme Court decision made Thursday that struck down the New York gun law that placed restrictions on carrying a concealed gun in public. In its decision, the Supreme Court said that the law violates the Second Amendment.
Dr. Jocelynne Rainey, president and CEO of Brooklyn Community Foundation, disagreed with the decision.
"This ruling deals a blow to Brooklyn neighborhoods impacted by skyrocketing gun violence and will be used to weaponize communities in this borough, across New York State, and nationally," she said.
Also, U.S. House Representative Hakeem Jeffries represents New York's 8th Congressional District. As a result, he said that the decision will make streets less safe for New Yorkers.
"Our partners in law enforcement have been clear: putting more guns on to the streets of New York City will not magically solve gun crime, but will create more gun violence victims," he added.
Additionally, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said that the decision is a "nightmare for public safety," according to CNN.
