Overall, crime is down in Bushwick, but up in Brooklyn as a whole.
There has been a 6% decrease in crime reported to Bushwick’s 83rd Precinct during the week Nov. 15 to Nov. 21, compared to the same period last year.
There have been 31 incidents reported, including rape, robbery, felony assault, burglary, grand larceny and grand larceny auto.
During the same period last year, there were 33 incidents reported, including 11 incidents of grand larceny.
There has been six murders and 25 rapes reported this year in the neighborhood, compared with five murders and 18 rapes reported by the same date in 2020.
Looking at the 28-day cycle, there has been a 9.5% decrease in incident reports this year on last.
The most common incident reported over the week-long period was grand larceny, with 11 reports of the crime. That is the same number of incidents reported during the same period last year.
On Nov. 22 the 83rd Precinct tweeted the photo of a man wanted in connection with a grand larceny auto in Bushwick. The man is also wanted for a sexual assault in the 104th Precinct area.
Across Brooklyn:
Across the borough, there have been 642 incidents reported between November 15 and November 21, according to NYPD’s CompStat. There were eight rapes reported rapes across Brooklyn, 91 robberies and 147 felony assaults.

The Brooklyn Diocese announced this week that it would be relieving an 86-year-old priest of his duties after it substantiated a nearly 50-year-old sexual abuse case against him. An internal diocese investigation found that allegations made in Oct. 2020 against Rev. Peter Mahoney are credible. The elderly priest has been added to the list of credibly accused priests maintained by the diocese.
A police officer was struck by a vehicle in Brooklyn on Wednesday night. It happened around 6:30 p.m. near East 83rd Street and Foster Avenue in Canarsie. While patrolling, police spotted a car in a common driveway with two people inside. They ran the plate and discovered it was stolen. When officers tried to speak to the driver inside, they say he put the window up and sped off, hitting an officer and eventually hitting a fence.
There is new information on a carjacking and sexual assault that happened earlier this month in Brooklyn. The NYPD released new video in the case on Thursday. Police say video shows the man wanted in the Nov. 7 attack in Bushwick. The suspect was also seen on video scoping out a vehicle on Wyckoff Street. The driver had left the car running while his 27-year-old girlfriend slept in the front seat. The suspect then got in the car and apparently drove off. Police say the man later stopped in Ridgewood, Queens and sexually assaulted the woman.
Brooklyn building owner Jason Korn, who has topped the NYC Public Advocate’s Worst Landlord Watchlist two years in a row, has reached a settlement with the Department of Housing Preservation and Development over accusations of tenant harassment and building neglect. As part of the settlement, Korn will fix all outstanding building violations within 90 days and end tenant harassment in six buildings impacting 388 households in Brooklyn and Manhattan. He agreed to pay $235,000 in civil penalties and comply with the City’s tenant harassment laws.
