Are you part of a neighborhood or community group that makes life better for other people in your area?
Maybe you deliver food to vulnerable neighbors. Lead a physical or mental health class. Run block association meetings. Check in on seniors. Or have been giving your weekends to revitalize a school garden. Or maybe it's something else.
If your community project is addressing neighborhood needs, you could be eligible for an up-to $5,000 grant to put towards that project in 2022.
Citizens Committee for NYC (CitizensNYC) on Tuesday announced it had reopened its All in Neighborhood Grants, which offer direct cash grants to community groups helping their neighbors.
CitizensNYC will be giving away $1 million worth of grants, with each grantee getting up to $5,000 and access to the organization's support network.
"Local residents are best situated to enact change in their neighborhoods,â CitizensNYC CEO Dr. Rahsaan Harris said, announcing the grants.
âOur successful 2021 grant cycle showed that community members were willing to step up as leaders during the pandemic to address the urgent needs of their communities.â
In the past, CitizensNYC has given grants to all sorts of community projects, including those helping neighbors with food insecurity, providing access to healthy food, financial help, help for seniors, mental health care, community relations and more.
CitizensNYC says it recognizes applying for grants can be daunting, and so it has a sample application and an info video for applicants to check out. "
"We strongly discourage applicants to seek third-party grant writing assistance, as we want to hear your genuine voice," it says.
Applications can be submitted in English, Spanish (Español) and Chinese (ä¸æ—).
The applications are open now, and will be received on a rolling basis until summer 2022, although application before Jan. 30 is encouraged.
