A new interactive mural in Brooklyn is supporting Black-owned and small businesses by allowing customers to shop directly through the artwork.
By simply holding their cameras up to the new Williamsburg mural and tapping on items of interest, New Yorkers can buy products directly from Trade Street Jam Co., Coming Soon, Lockwood, My Little Magic Shop, Hudson Wilder, Chillhouse and Aunts et Uncles.
The mural, which sits on the corner of Bogart Street and Grattan Street, was commissioned by Google and AmEx and designed and painted by local Filipina-American artist Kitkat Pecson. It is one of four around the country.
To support Black-owned small businesses ahead of the “Black-Owned Friday,” Google also released a shoppable film featuring an original track by T-Pain and Normani and showcasing more than 100 products from over 50 Black-owned businesses, including 10 from NYC-based Black-owned businesses.
The mural and video are part of Google and AmEx’s partnership to help thousands of small businesses nationwide enhance their digital presence during the holiday season, and they are also offering a Grow with Google digital workshop for small businesses.
