Congresswoman Yvette Clarke and New York State Attorney General Letitia James will be recognized for their leadership on Friday night as part of the Shirley Chisholm Cultural Institute (SCCI)’s inaugural SCCI Award Ceremony.

Clarke will be awarded the Unbought Unbossed Award and James will receive the Truth to Power Award for their efforts in following in the footsteps of Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm.

The ceremony, which will be hosted by radio personality Angela Yee, launches a yearlong celebration of the legacy of Shirley Chisholm, SCCI said. The celebration will include programming and events, and even a Tik Tok campaign “Bring A Folding Chair,” which will be launched this fall in partnership with the Caribbean Heritage Organization (CHO) and Jump and Fly Foundation.

Shirley Chisholm Cultural Institute President Barbara Bullard said the mission of the organization was to expand Chisholm’s legacy around the world.

“Chisholm set the path for the generations to come. It is a momentous time to share her Unbought Unbossed boldness and vision one that we can surely benefit from.”

SSCI, founded by Chisholm and her colleagues in 1977, provides opportunities and cultural experiences for people of all ages to access economic, educational, health, and recreational resources in their communities.
