What to Do in BOOO-klyn This Halloween Weekend

Dust off your costumes, jazz up your mask and hit the streets of Brooklyn this weekend for some freaky fun and adrenaline-inducing adventures!

This weekend, get ready to get your freak on with events lined up across the borough sure to get some frightening BOO-gie down moments happening!

After a year's hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this Halloween weekend is jam packed with events in our favorite borough, and we've lined up nine mostly family-friendly (and some even four legged friendly!) events happening across BOOO-klyn.

BAMboo!: BAM’s free annual outdoor Halloween block party

Start your trick-or-treating off right at this free, socially distanced, grab-and-go outdoor festival with pre-packaged goody bags filled with candy, toys, arts and crafts, and more. This family-friendly event, where kids can grab treats from car trunks decorated for the occasion will be held in front of the BAM Peter Jay Sharp Building.

All attending family members who are vaccine-eligible (ages 12+) will need to provide proof of vaccination and personal ID. Masks must be worn at all times.

When: Oct. 31, 2:00pm-5:00pm

Myrtle Avenue Monster Mash Dance Party

The Halloween Monster Mash Dance Party returns to the Myrtle Avenue Plaza this Halloween. There'll be costumes, music and dancing, giveaways, a selfie station, plus a special raffle, Halloween hunt and storefront trick or treating all along Myrtle! 

When: Oct. 31, 4:00pm-6:00pm

Where: Myrtle Ave Plaza, between Emerson Place and Grand Ave

When the Light Goes Out: Spirits, Souls, and Spooky Tales by Hedgepig Ensemble Theatre

Gather ‘round the campfire because Hedgepig Ensemble Theatre is BACK with live performances! Thanks to an award from City Corps to help revitalize Brooklyn with excellent performances, Hedgepig’s Ensemble has built a FREE show for the community: When the Light Goes Out: Spirits, Souls, and Spooky Tales. What scares you? What lurks in the shadows? How do we summon the past? Join the group in the parks amid the setting sun to find out. This performance is rated PG-13.

When and Where: Oct. 29 at 6:00pm at South Oxford Park, 197 S Oxford St; Oct. 30 at 6:00pm at Dr. Ronald McNair Park, Washington Ave; and Oct. 31 at 6:00pm at Cuyler Gore Park, Fulton St &, Greene Ave.

BKLYN BOO! BOOgie Wonderland edition

Formed especially for this occasion, Downtown Brooklyn’s house band, BOOgie Wonderland Elements* plays Earth Wind & Fire covers amongst other 70s Boogie hits. Come dance! DJ Boogie Blind is one of the most respected DJ’s in the industry. Founder of one of the greatest turntablist crews of all time, New York’s legends The X-Ecutioners, Boogie has DJed for Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe, Jim Jones, Jean Grae, and Pharoahe Monch. Roller Boogie Bubble Girl creates a surreal environment… on roller skates an with bubbles! Costume contest! All costumes are invited. If you need inspiration, think “BOOgie” - combine fright with 70s wear. Wander around BOO-tiful Albee Square and take pics with the haunted ambience. And be sure to visit City Point to take BKLYN BOO! selfie in their pumpkin patch.

Halloween at BCM

Head to the Brooklyn Children’s Museum in your costume and celebrate Halloween at BCM! Trick-or-treat in the exhibits, customize a candy bag, explore the not-too-spooky maze and meet some of our creepiest animal friends.

When: Oct. 31, 10:00am-5:00pm.

Great PUPkin Dog Costume Contest in Fort Greene

Pull out those costumes fit for the four-legged, the 23rd annual Great PUPkin Dog Costume Contest in Fort Greene is taking place this Halloweekend! The canine costume contest, which carries a $12 entry fee, will take place at Fort Greene Park at noon on Saturday, Oct. 30 (or on Halloween, Oct. 31, if it rains). It will also be livestreamed for anyone who chooses to stay at home, but wants to delight in the all the spooky doggie attire.

When: Oct. 30, 12:00pm-2:30pm (same time on Oct. 31 if it rains)

NY Night Train 16th Annual HAUNTED HOP! at TV EYE

We know it’s technically Queens, but it’s worth the trek! Head along to Ridgewood bar TV Eye for a night of bands, DJs, and performers kicking off at 7:00pm. The Haunted Hop show is $10 and then free after 1:00am, when the bar will host a monster mash dancing and costume contest with prizes up for grabs!

When: Oct. 31, 7:00pm till late

Cobble Hill Halloween Parade

The Cobble Hill Association is excited to announce the return of its most beloved neighborhood tradition: The Cobble Hill Halloween Parade! The event will kick off with a big-brass band (Brass Queens!) leading a procession of costumed families in a march down Congress to Henry, around Warren Street, and back to the park.

Everyone is invited to come and enjoy the fun, and trick-or-treat throughout the neighborhood afterward. The event will go ahead rain or shine.

When: Oct. 31, 4:00pm

Where: Cobble Hill Park

Park Slope Annual Halloween Fest

Head along to Park Slope’s 5th Avenue for its Halloween Fest for kids, which will incude a day of fun outdoor activities and great visuals! Starting at 11:30am there will be music and activities hosted by local businesses, followed by a parade, puppet pageant and costume contest.

When: 11:30am-3:00pm

Where: Park Slope’s 5th Avenue, between President and Carroll
