Brooklyn man killed by hit-and-run driver while crossing Bronx highway had just attended friend’s memorial service

A Brooklyn man mowed down by a hit-and-run driver while trying to cross the Bruckner Expressway was visiting the Bronx to pay his respects at a friend’s memorial service, his grieving mother told the Daily News.

Jamel Boyd’s mother knew something was wrong when the 33-year-old didn’t call her to check in Saturday — something he’d regularly do when he got home for the night.

“He was always the type of person to call and let you know he was OK,” Boyd’s mother, Thomasina Boyd, 54, told the Daily News.
