At Least 8 Dead After Rainfall From Ida Overwhelms NYC Region

At least eight people died in the New York metro area as historic flooding Wednesday evening as the remnants of Hurricane Ida walloped the New York metro area, trapping people in cars, flooding homes and forcing evacuations of subway cars and stations.

Six of the deaths took place in Queens, according to the NYPD, while one occurred in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn. In one incident in Woodside, police found two adults and a 2-year old boy unconscious in their home on 64th Street. All three were pronounced dead at the scene. In Jamaica, Queens, a 22-year-old man was found dead and a 43-year-old woman was taken to the hospital where she died shortly after.
