A devastated son who started a fundraiser for his mother's funeral costs after she was fatally shot at her Crown Heights home last week has raised more than $10,000 from the community.

24-year-old Janse Joseph's mother, Limose Dart, was coming home from her work as a home health aide on Thursday and was almost on her doorstep when she was shot in the chest on St. Johns Place in Crown Heights. She was taken to hospital where she died from her injuries.

Joseph said his mother was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and police told Pix11 Dart, 54, was not the intended target of the shooting.

On a GoFundMe page Joseph set up to raise funeral costs for his mother, he said the pair had moved to Brooklyn form Haiti just three years ago and he didn't know what to in the situation, pleading for help.

"I'm absolutely devastated by my mother's death. I couldn't imagine something like this happened to my mom. She was a great mother," he wrote.

"I regret the fact she doesn't know how much I love her and after all she has done for me, I didn't get a chance to do nothing for her. She was all I had and she has taken away from me so tragically."

Joseph said on the page that any help would be appreciated and was much needed.

A 30-year-old man was also shot in the arm during the shooting and was treated in hospital. Police are still searching for the shooter.
