PHOTOS: Kool Keith, Mari World Light Up the Stage at Prospect Park

One had a full jazz band, the other had a knack with turning the slightest observation into a catchy riff. And they both had the ability to get the crowd going.

One had a full jazz band, the other had a knack of turning the slightest observation into a catchy riff. And they both had the ability to get the crowd going.

On Friday night, Kool Keith and Mari World took to the stage at Prospect Parks Lena Horne band shell as part ofBRICs free summer-long concert series,Celebrate Brooklyn.

Mari World opened up the show with a full jazz band and together they truly made some magic happen. Mari World brought the energy throughout his set, even in his slower D'Angelo rendition and romantic ballads, and the crowd was feeling the music and the love.

Rapper and producer Kool Keith -- a cofounding member of Ultramagnetic MCs and who has performed prolifically on his own -- had earlier replaced headliner Junglepussy, who pulled out due to the ongoing pandemic. And he definitely gave the crowd a good taste of what the abstract lyrics, freestyles and short anecdotes he's known for.

Although not as packed as the previous nights show for Lil' Kim and Busta Rhymes, Friday's show was the perfect slide into the weekend and I doubt Mari World will be a name the crowd will forget.
