There has been an 40% reduction in crime reported to Brownsville's 73rd Precinct during the week August 9 to August 15, compared to the same period last year.
There have been 24 incidents reported, including three robberies, 9 felony assaults and five reports of grand larceny. During the same two-week period last year, there were 40 incidents reported, including one murder .
There has been 10 murders and 25 rapes reported this year in the neighborhood, compared to 17 murders and 18 rapes by this time last year.
Looking at the 28-day cycle, there has been a 18.9% decrease in incident reports this year on last.
The most common incident reported this year is felony assault, with 365 reports in the neighborhood, 20 more than during the same period last year.
On August 12, the 73rd Precinct tweeted a photo of a handgun and package of narcotics recovered on the streets of the neighborhood by the precinct's field intelligence and public safety teams.

Across the borough, there have been 579 incidents reported between August 8 and August 15, according to NYPD's CompStat, including one murder in North Brooklyn. There were 17 rapes, 58 robberies and 119 felony assaults reported across Brooklyn.

A mother of four was killed Thursday night when she was struck by possible stray bullets as she was arriving home from work, according to family and the NYPD. Officers responded just after 8:30 p.m. to a call of a shooting on St. Johns Place, near Rochester Avenue, in the Crown Heights section, police said.
An MTA employee was left hiding in a toll booth inside a Crown Heights subway station after a man who flashed her took out a knife and threatened her life, according to police. The 51-year-old MTA worker was inside the toll booth at the Botanic Gardens Subway station when the man first came up to her, exposing his penis and masturbating, police said. The man then fled the area.
