BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival kicks off this Saturday with a live performance from neo-soul artist Ari Lennox, KAMAUU and special guests Adeline and Nesta.
The event is the first in a packed lineup of free performances that run through September 30, along with some ticketed benefits shows that include The Roots and Elsie Fest.
After being cancelled last year due to the pandemic, the festival is back to continue its more than 40 year run. Since 1979, the festival has presented celebrated global music icons, legendary jazz artists, chart-topping indie bands, gravity-defying dance troupes, large-scale film projects and even a virtual reality performance.
This year, live shows taking place at Prospect Park's bandshell will include Skip Marley, Glass Animals, Junglepussy and many more.
"From its very first performance in summer of 1979, the mission of the Festival has been to bring Brooklyn together. These free experiences at the Prospect Park Bandshell enhance our quality of life and understanding of the world by illuminating the vibrant cultures that make our borough so unique," BRIC says on its website.
"We believe it is especially important to use artistic platforms to reaffirm the very basis of what Brooklyn and America is — a welcoming, supercollider of ideas and cultures, informing and enriching each other.
