Four Brooklyn organizations are amongst the 60 shortlisted to win $100,000 for community justice work as part of Expensify.org's Community Justice Grant Challenge.

Clinton Hill Fort Greene Mutual Aid's Groceries & Essentials Fund project; Community Fridge 120's nourishing food and health resources project; Hollaback!'s movement to end harassment project; and Daniel Russo Performance Project's final notice project are all in the running to be one of the ten projects selected to share the fund.

The 60 projects shortlisted as part of Expensify.org's challenge have all been selected for their efforts in fighting injustices in their communities in the areas of climate justice, food security, housing equity, reentry services and youth advocacy.

Expensify.org, a charity founded by the preaccounting platform Expensify, will provide up to $100,000 in funding to the 10 grassroots organizations that get the most votes in the challenge, as part of Expensify's $3 million commitment to combat systemic inequity.

Expensify Director Puneet Lath said it had been amazing seeing how many people were out there fighting for change, justice, and equity in their communities.

"The level of creativity and hustle shown by these applicants reminds us that change is possible — especially when we work together to build local solutions that empower those most affected by the issues," Lath said.

"We've worked closely with all the applicants to truly understand their campaign proposals, and we're excited for the public to see all the incredible ideas that they can help support simply by voting."

Since launching the grant challenge in February, Expensify.org received more than 1,000 applications.

Now entering the voting stage, Expensify.org is inviting members of the public to cast their ballot for the campaigns they think should win up to $100,000 to scale their efforts for change.

Voting is open here from July 19, 2021 through July 26, 2021.
