Rugby Library in East Flatbush is officially open after a four year-long closure and $10.2 million renovation.
The branch, which closed in March 2017, has been decked out with 22,000 books and items, new shelving, seating and service areas, and a new area for kids and teens.
The building now features a "First Five Years" section for young readers complete with child-size furniture and shelves, according to the Brooklyn Public Library. It also includes new workspaces and meetings rooms for public use, as well as a dozen computers.
The upgrade upgrades also include new HVAC units, LED lighting, free WiFi, ADA upgraded bathrooms and a mural created by Brooklyn artist JMikal Davis.
"Simply put, this is the library East Flatbush has long needed and deserves," Councilmember Farah Louis said.
"It embodies our community's aspirations as well as the larger mission of the Brooklyn Public Library. It is a public place accessible to New Yorkers of all ages and backgrounds. It is also a place to read and dream, to wonder and wander, to expand minds and engage civically."
The library, located at 1000 Utica Avenue, is open Monday 10:00am - 4:00pm, Tuesday 1:00pm - 7:00pm, Wednesday 10:00am - 4:00pm, Thursday 1:00pm - 7:00pm, Friday 10:00am - 4:00pm and Saturday: 10:00am - 5:00pm.
