The three-story parish house on the site of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Clinton Hill has been torn down to make way for a 17-story building adjacent to the church, Brownstoner reports.
The demolition comes after a smaller three-story rectory with a mansard roof was demolished earlier this year on the Classon St and Willoughby Ave. site.
Although the St. Mary's Episcopal Church building was landmarked in 1981, neither of the smaller two buildings were.
An application was filed in 2016 for a new building on the site, which shows plans for an apartment building with 138 units, cellar parking for 89 bicycles, 97 ground floor carparks and a community facility, Brownstoner reports. On the second floor, there would be a parish, two apartments, a choir room, two meeting rooms and a roof terrace. Plans show there would be a gym in the building and more outdoor space on the top floor.
In 2017, the Landmarks Preservation Commission approved construction of the new building on the site, which will include a metal and glass connector between the new building and the church, and the removal of a brick chimney on the church.
Developer Quinlan Development Group told Brownstoner in an email the apartments would be one- and two-bedrooms with private balconies and that 30% of the apartments will be set aside as affordable. Quinlin signed a 99-year ground lease with the church for part of the site in 2017, public records show.
The new tower's address will be 249 Willoughby Ave. according to DOB filings.
