The month of Ramadan is full of celebration and festivity as Muslims immerse themselves in reading the Quran and Duas.

Muslims fast the whole month, as it's said to teach the true meaning of perseverance and tolerance, while being empathetic towards the poor and needy.

At the end of the month, those practicing Ramadan are rewarded with the festival of Eid al Fitr.

Muslims all over the world celebrate the festival of Eid al Fitr by starting the day with the Eid prayer. After the Eid prayers, people greet each other with the customary Eid greetings, Eid Mubarak with a formal embrace, three times.

The day is spent with friends and family, indulging in eating and handing out Eidi -- gifts given to kids on Eid. Everyone gets new clothes made for the special occasion as every single person wants to look their best. The festival revolves around the theme of togetherness and happiness. In essence, Muslims celebrate the blessings bestowed upon them by Allah.

This Saturday, May 15, Brooklyn Children's Museum, the Turkish Cultural Center and the Arab-American Family Support Center are hosting the Ramadan Eid Festival, welcoming Brooklynites to learn the story of Eid al-Fitr and celebrate with a full day of music, food, dancing and art! Due to COVID-19 safety protocols, tickets are required for the event.

APNA Brooklyn Community Center is also holding an Eid celebration this Sunday in collaboration with the NYPD and Shorefront Toys. The event, which runs from 2:00-5:00pm at 236 Neptune Ave., promises food and fun!
