Overall, crime is up in East New York, and in Brooklyn as a whole.
There has been an almost 39% increase in crime reported to East New York's 75th Precinct during the week April 12 to April 18, compared to the same period last year.
There have been 57 incidents reported, including rape, robbery, felony assault, burglary, grand larceny and grand larceny auto. During the same two-week period last year, there were 41 incidents reported, including eight felony assaults and 11 incidents of grand larceny.
Looking at the 28-day cycle, there has been a 22% increase in incident reports this year on last.
There have been six murders and 16 rapes reported this year in the neighborhood, compared to three murders and 16 rapes by this time last year.
The most common incident reported over the week-long period was grand larceny, with 17 reports of the crime. That is six more reported incident of grand larceny than the same period last year.
The most common incident reported this year is also grand larceny, with 282 reports in the neighborhood, 43 less than during the same period last year.
This week, the NYPD paid out $750,000 to a New York mother after officers at the 75th Precinct shackled her during labor and after the birth of her baby.
On April 20, the 75th Precinct tweeted that officers were calling on the community for help finding suspects in an assault on an elderly woman.
Across Brooklyn:
Across the borough, there have been 415 incidents reported between April 12 and April 18, according to NYPD's CompStat, including one rape in Brooklyn South and six in North Brooklyn. There were no murders in the borough over the two week period. 54 robberies were reported across Brooklyn and 98 felony assaults.
Between April 12 and and April 18, there were 337 violent crimes reported, 630 property crimes and 32 sex crimes. Data collected by NYPD shows violent crimes in the borough typically occur between 4pm and 5am and high time for property crimes is between 10am and 10pm.

On Thursday night, a teenage boy was critically injured when he was shot in the head in Brooklyn, according to police. The NYPD said the shooting happened around 10:45 p.m. near an apartment building on North Portland Avenue, outside the Whitman Houses NYCHA complex. Police are investigating the shooting.
Earlier this week, hundreds of Brooklynites marched outside Barclays Center in in a collective sigh of relief after the conviction of Derek Chauvin. A jury in Minneapolis found Derek Chauvin guilty of all charges in the death of George Floyd on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, detectives in Brooklyn were looking for a gunman who shot and killed his former girlfriend's father during a dispute. Law enforcement sources told AMNY Vernon Kelly, 49, was shot dead in front of a residence on Osborn Street in Brownsville at about 4:25 a.m. on April 20 after coming to his daughter's aid and confronting the suspect, while the pair argued.
Community leaders in Brooklyn are questioning the mayor and top police officials about the recent assignment of Chief John Chell to head up the Brooklyn North Detective Bureau. The appointment marks the latest high-profile job for a cop who says he accidentally fired his gun in the fatal 2008 shooting of a young Black man.
