On Friday, new burger joint The Burger House was officially welcomed to Bed-Stuy in a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Elected officials and community leaders came to support business owner Jon Yearwood in his new entrepreneurial venture, which he says is an ode to his eccentric taste buds.

"When the pandemic hit, while sheltering in, I wanted something good to eat besides what was being offered in my neighborhood, so I set out to create it," Yearwood, who grew up in the south, said.

The Burger House menu includes a variety of signature burgers, including plant-based and seafood options, as well as lobster mac, fried okra, calamari, tequila-lime, buffalo and jerk wings, salads, and more.

Small business owner and Community Board 3 Chair Richard Flateau hosted the ribbon cutting event, that was attended by Senator Jabari Brisport and Assemblymember Stefani Zinerman. Zinerman presented Yearwood with a certificate acknowledging his new venture and commitment to the Bed-Stuy Community.

Other guests included 36th Council District hopefuls Tahirah Moore and Henry Butler, who presented Yearwood with a congratulatory letter on behalf of councilman Robert E. Cornegy.

The note congratulated Yearwood for his investment in the community and for showing a vote of confidence in the neighborhood.
