An online series from Bed-Stuy champagne guru Marvina Robinson demonstrating ways to cook with champagne is set to pop-off this weekend, with registrations already hugely exceeding expectations.

"We currently have over 300 people registered, which is absolutely amazing and immensely humbling for me," Robinson said. "I had to hire a whole team to properly cover the event, so I will be opening my kitchen up to everybody."

Robinson is the founder of champagne brand Stuyvesant Champagne, which is named after the neighborhood she grew up in and continues to work from — Bedford-Stuyvesant.

Launched in Feb. 2020, Stuyvesant Champagne has two signature cuvées, the brut rosé and the grand resérve. In July, she launched a range of champagne popsicles called Vina Pops.

Her latest project is Bubbles & Brunch: a way to demonstrate ways that you can cook with champagne, outside of sipping out of a glass.

With an upcoming recipe book in which all the recipes utilize champagne as a main ingredient, Robinson wanted to give people a hands-on look at how champagne can be incorporated into brunch, lunch and dinner recipes.

"I wanted to give a sample of some of the recipes that will be in the book and also connect with a lot of B. Stuyvesant consumers," she said.

For Robinson, it was important that people registering for the event could see that they could make all the recipes themselves.

"When I first advertised this event, professionally trained chefs reached out to me offering to cook for the event. But I wanted to show as an everyday woman, juggling a whole lot we can cook these amazing meals."

The first event in the series kicks off this Sunday, Feb. 28, on Zoom.

Robinson said registrants will receive the menu and ingredients they need to cook with early this week.

Then, on the day, registrants have the option to cook with her step-by-step, or they can just join the event, "have fun, sip bubbles, virtually cheers  and just enjoy the vibe."
