Here's Where You Can Get a Free Turkey in Brooklyn this Thanksgiving

A number of local organizations are holding free turkey giveaways over the next week to make sure everyone can have a traditional meal in the most untraditional of times

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, it's time to start pulling out those winter recipes and getting ready for a day of gravy and tight waist belts.

Although this year will be an all but traditional celebration, with COVID-19 keeping us isolated in our pandemic bubbles, organizations across Brooklyn want to make sure families can still have a traditional meal.

Here are 7 giveaways happening this week across our Brooklyn neighborhoods:

  1. Church of St. Francis of Assisi -- Crown Heights
    400 Lincoln Road
    Tuesday, November 17 at 10 a.m.
    State Senator Zellnor Myrie and Assemblymember Diana Richardson will be handing out turkeys in partnership with partnership with Catholic Charities of Brooklyn & Queens and Churches United for Fair Housing
  2. 400 Rockaway Ave -- Brownsville
    Thursday, November 19 at 1 p.m.
    State Senator Zellnor Myrie, Assemblymember Latrice Walker and Councilmember Alicka Ampry-Samuel will be handing out turkeys in partnership with Village Care and Campaign Against Hunger.
  3. NYU-Langone Center — Sunset Park
    6025 6th Avenue
    Friday November 20 at 9 a.m.
    State Senator Zellnor Myrie, Councilmember Carlos Menchaca and Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez will be handing out turkeys in partnership with EmblemHealth, Churches United for Fair Housing and NYU-Langone Health Center.
  4. Christ Apostolic Church First in the Americas — Kensington
    622 Cortelyou Road
    Saturday, November 21 at 11 a.m.
    The church is hosting its annual turkey giveaway in partnership with Goke Food Pantry. Turkeys will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis.
  5. Richard Beavers Gallery Turkey Giveaway — Bed-Stuy
    408 Marcus Garvey Boulevard
    Saturday, November 21
    Richard Beavers Gallery is hosting its second annual Thanksgiving turkey giveaway. There are 200 turkeys which will be given to Brooklyn families with IDs and masks on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a one turkey per family limit.
  6. The Brooklyn Bank — Bed-Stuy
    896 Dekalb Ave
    Sunday November 22 at 11 a.m.
    To register for a ticket email your name to donations@thebrooklynbank.com. It is the third annual Brooklyn Bank Turkey and Christmas Giveaway, this year the organization is aiming to serve 350 local families in need. Turn up early, because turkeys and groceries will be handed out while stocks last.
  7. Masbia Soup Kitchen — Flatbush, 1372 Coney Island Avenue
    Download the Plentiful app or text the word "FOOD" to 726879 to set up an appointment for once a week food pantry shopping. All goods are first-come, first-served, and the pantry expects to have a limited supply of whole kosher turkeys.
