More than half a dozen insurgent candidates sailed to victory Tuesday and will join the state Assembly after unseating incumbent Democrats earlier this year.
The newcomers, predominantly backed by the Democratic Socialists of America and Working Families Party, include a host of several tenant advocates and community organizers who share a fighting spirit and an ideology.
While the wins don't pose a threat to the leadership of Speaker Carl Heastie (D-Bronx), the newcomers will boost a coalition of younger, left-wing lawmakers who aren't afraid to face off with mainline Dems.
