Flatbush Nostrand Junction Business Improvement District Executive Director Kenneth Mbonu has been named to the board of the Northeastern Economic Development Association.

At the Flatbush Nostrand BID, Mbonu focuses on urban development, creating public-private partnerships and doing business development advisory. Prior to his role at the BID, Mbonu was principal of EastMB Group, where he developed and expanded economic development initiatives and played a key role in the revitalization of secondary commercial corridors in Central Brooklyn.

In his new role at NEDA, Mbonu says he hopes, "to address the importance of community wealth where equity and collective capital prevails."

NEDA, based in Albany, is a network of professionals across disciplines who work towards economic and community development in the Northeast. It's membership comprises 11 states from the District of Columbia to Maine.

NEDA's websites says, "Our mission is to connect, inform and inspire our partners to do great things for their communities and to be a voice of successful economic development in our region."

It states the Northeast region has thousands of dedicated volunteers and professionals in community and economic development, and they are needed now more than ever. "Our communities need healing, reimagining and rebuilding — a transformation we are uniquely positioned for," the website states. "Our ability to inspire change through economic opportunity, however, is directly related to how strong our ties are with our communities. "

Mbonu brings a wealth of experience to the board as a CORO alumnus, certified economic development finance professional, International Charter School of New York board of trustee member, Brooklyn Community Board 3 member, NYC BID Association board member and advisor to Dechets a l'or, a waste management company in Guinea West Africa.
