Hundreds of Brownsville residents lined up from 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning for foods and other supplies, News 12 reports.
World of Giving, which works over the tri-state to get families much needed supplies, partnered with Doral Health and Wellness for the 10.30 a.m. giveaway, which will become a weekly event due to the amount of need the organizatons saw.
Mark Roizman, from Word of Giving, said the effort was making a huge difference for those who had come out. “This is what world of giving does, and we’re very excited to be doing it here.”
NYPD Patrol Borough Brooklyn North Chief Judith Harrison said the hundreds lined up on Pitkin Ave had smiles on their faces. “People have come with their children, the children are happy and this is what it’s all about it’s all about, service, and all about giving back.”
Most of the goods handed out were taken from companies that would have otherwise thrown them away. Given the number of people that showed up, the organizations are planning on holding the giveaway every Wednesday at 10.30 a.m. on Pitkin Avenue.
