Drive-In Film Festival Launching in Brooklyn This Weekend

The festival will launch on Friday night with the film John Lewis: Good Trouble

This weekend, the new Brooklyn Drive-In film festival will kick off with films screening Friday and Saturday nights.

The drive-in theater will be set up on the pier of the Brooklyn Army Terminal.

On Friday night, Magnolia Pictures film John Lewis: Good Trouble, chronicling the life and career of civil rights advocate and Congressman John Lewis, will screen at 8.30 p.m (with doors opening at 7.30 p.m.) There will be an introduction to the film by director Dawn Porter and a prerecorded question and answer discussion between Lewis and Oprah will be screened at the end.

On Saturday, the New York premier of The Rental, an IFC film directed by Dave Franco, will screen at 8.30 p.m., with doors opening at 7.30 p.m. There will also be a prerecorded question and answer session with Franco.

The festival, which will run in New York through October, is a partnership between Rooftop Films and the New York City Economic Development Corporation. Rooftop Films is a nonprofit organization that showcases the work of emerging filmmakers in outdoor locations, helping filmmakers produce new films, and renting equipment & supporting film screenings citywide at low-cost to artists, nonprofits and community groups.

The entrance to the drive-in theatre is at 80th 58th St. Tickets are $45 per car. More locations and screening dates will be announced soon, stay up-to-date with Rooftop Films website.
