City Councilmember Antonio Reynoso, who represents Brooklyn's 34th district covering parts of Bushwick, Ridgewood and Williamsburg, is in the 2021 race for Brooklyn's next borough president and so far, leads the field in the number of donors, smallest contributions and cash on hand, his office announced on Thursday.

The councilmember has opted into the city's most restrictive campaign finance program that limits the amount an individual can contribute but also offers the highest highest public match. Under this new, progressive finance campaign, Reynoso has raised a total of $84,602 from 530 donations, with $40,000 matchable by the City Campaign Finance Board at an 8-to-1 level.

It brings his expected matched total to $387,000-- the largest potential total in the race for BP where he'll be running against City Councilmembers Robert Cornegy and Bishop Lamor Miller Whitehead.

A fourth candidate-- City Councilmember Rafael Espinal-- exited the race on Thursday.

The son of Dominican immigrants, Reynoso was born and raised in Williamsburg. Prior to being elected to the city council, he worked as an organizer for ACORN and as the chief of staff for former City Councilmember Diana Reyna. He has represented North Brooklyn since 2013, focused on policies to address affordable housing, economic development, environmental justice, education, job creation and public safety.

"I am humbled by this support from across Brooklyn for my Borough President campaign," said Reynoso. "We have a long way to go until June 2021, and I am excited to continue sharing my plans for the future of Brooklyn."
