Good Shepherd Services, a New York City based non-profit that helps struggling youth and family members in challenging environments overcome their greatest challenges, on Tuesday held its inaugural Holiday Toy and Blanket Giveaway at the Prince Joshua Avitto Community Center in East New York.

The organization gave away more than 500 toys, sweatshirts and blankets to hundreds of East New York families, thanks to a donation from Rabo Bank.

"Every child deserves the joy that comes with a gift during the holidays, and we're glad that we were able to provide that to so many young people and families across the community," said Michelle Yanche, executive director of Good Shepherd Services.

Good Shepherd Services operates an array of youth and family programming in the East New York Community. The organization serves over 30,000 children and families each year and provides a variety of programs focusing on family, education, housing and youth justice for the Brooklyn community.

"We know how important it is for young people to feel safe, warm, and loved, especially during this time of year," Yanche said.
