Applications are now open and available for 20 newly constructed affordable housing units located at 212 Hegeman Avenue in Brownsville.
The building is being constructed through the Supportive Housing Loan Program of the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) and the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) Program of New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR).
Supportive housing is permanent, affordable housing with on-site support services to serve the needs of the most vulnerable New Yorkers, including the formerly homeless and disabled. Sixty percent of units in the building are supportive housing units set aside for low income or formerly homeless individuals or families with special needs, who are referred by city agencies. Around 30% of the units in the building are made available to the public through lottery.
Amenities include 24-hour attended lobby, on-site computer lab, landscaped rear yard, live-in superintendent, card operated on-site laundry*, solid surface countertops, hardwood flooring, energy-efficient appliances, on-site social services for low income or formerly homeless households with special needs.
Please note: the building is a smoke-free building. Nearby transit includes the L, 3 trains and the B15, B35, B60 buses.
Who Should Apply?
Individuals or households who meet the income and household size requirements listed below may apply. Qualified applicants will be required to meet additional selection criteria. Applicants who live in New York City and who live in Community Board 16 receive a general preference for apartments.
A percentage of units is set aside for:
- Mobility—disabled applicants (5%)
- Vision/Hearing—disabled applicants (2%).
- (50%) o Municipal employees (5%)
