On Friday, November 15, at the Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts in Fort Greene, Stars of New York Dance will celebrate a decade of dancing for the arts! This year, the annual fundraiser and dance contest will honor U.S. Congressman Hakeem Jeffries of the 8th Congressional District in Brooklyn, New York.
This thrilling and fun dance competition pairs local "stars" in the community with choreographers from leading dance organizations from around the five boroughs.
For the dance showcase, each couple must quickly learn a dance routine and then compete against other couples for prize money they will then donate to an arts organization of their choice. This year, the competition is bringing back past competitors— 3rd-, 2nd- and 1st-place winners— for the "Dance-off of the Decade!"
Check out this exclusive, behind-the-scenes footage of local "Dancing Star" State Senator Kevin Parker (21st District) and first-place winner in the 2012 Stars competition! He is paired with his same winning choreographer from 2012, Zakiya Harris, of Asase Yaa African American Dance Theater.
Take a sneak peak inside their studio, as they rehearse for the big night on November 15!
Do you think they will win?
