The Tony-nominated Broadway show Hadestown and Tina Fey's hit musical Mean Girls are headed to Bedford Stuyvesant's Restoration Plaza on Friday, June 14.

The shows are part of the city's Broadway in the Boros series, an initiative that features free daytime performances by cast members and musicians of hit Broadway musicals in neighborhoods throughout New York City.  Back for a fourth consecutive summer, this year's Broadway in the Boros is bringing songs from 2019 Tony-nominated shows as well as perennial award-winning favorites to public plazas that have deep resonance for the neighborhoods and those who live nearby.

"We are thrilled to bring back 'Broadway in the Boros' for the fourth year with new shows and in different neighborhoods across New York City," said Media and Entertainment Commissioner Anne del Castillo. "We invite all New Yorkers to come out this summer to enjoy these free performances featuring actors and musicians that make our city the creative capital of the world."

Broadway in the Boros aims to increase access to the magic of Broadway to all New Yorkers and by connecting communities in Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island with the rich arts and cultural programming available in the theatre district. For many families, Broadway in the Boros may be their first or only opportunity to experience a currently-running Broadway musical.

And with Hadestown and Mean Girls, Brooklynites are in for a special treat.

The Tony-nominated Broadway show Hadestown and Tina Fey's hit musical Mean Girls are headed to Bedford Stuyvesant's Restoration Plaza on Friday, June 14.

Hadestown, nominated for 14 Tonys, follows two intertwining love stories — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone — as it invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Performed by a vibrant ensemble of actors, dancers and singers, Hadestown delivers a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience.

Tina Fey's acclaimed Mean Girls introduces Cady Heron, who moves back from Africa to suburban Illinois, to the world of public school and cruel, tacit laws of teenage popularity that divide her fellow students into tightly knit cliques.

"What could be better than Broadway in Bed-Stuy," said Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams. "The arts are for everyone, and the cast members, musicians, and cultural partners who make this series possible embody that ongoing mission."
