The New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, property management company LWC Management Corporation and the New York City Housing Development Corporation are holding an affordable housing forum on Wednesday, June 5 at The Church of God of East Flatbush.
Central Brooklyn residents will have the opportunity to find out about affordable housing lotteries and how to apply to them, eligibility criteria, income limits, and how to learn when affordable housing units become available. The forum will also familiarize attendees with Housing Connect, the city's online portal that lists all available housing units in New York City and through which New Yorkers can apply for low-income housing.
Councilmember Laurie Cumbo, who supports the event, urges Brooklynites to seize the opportunity.
"When I talk to constituents, invariably affordable housing will pop up," said Cumbo. "I wanted to ensure that my office served as a reliable ally. As Brooklynites, it behooves us to be equipped with the most up-to-date housing information that will help us best navigate the system."
The forum will kick off promptly at 6:00pm. Residents interested in attending the event should call 718-385-1043 to RSVP before Wednesday, June 5.
For additional housing support, Cumbo will be hosting a Legal Housing Assistance session on Thursday, June 27, at Brooklyn Library's Grand Central Branch. Brooklyn tenants facing difficulties with their landlords will receive helpful legal tools on how to get their issues resolved. Save the date!
