A newly-completed building at the Nehemiah Spring Creek development in East New York has launched a lottery for 143 affordable apartments, reports Patch.
The development at 475-510 Vandalia Ave. includes four studios, 17 one-bedrooms, 116 two-bedrooms and six three-bedrooms set aside for NYC residents who earn between 30 percent and 90 percent of the Annual Median Income. Apartments up for grabs range from a $426/month one-bedroom to a $1,660/month three-bedroom. Salary requirements range from a $16,629 minimum annual salary for a $426/month one-bedroom to a maximum $65,790 annual salary for a $1,375/month one-bedroom.
Amenities include an on-site superintendent, monitored security system, custom bathroom cabinetry and solid surface countertops, card-operated laundry and limited on-site parking. The development is nearby several bus lines including the B13, B83, B84 and Q8
The newest development is the result of a collaboration between Nehemiah HDFC, run by the nonprofit East Brooklyn Congregations, and Monadnock Development. The Spring Creek site will also bring three parks, a supermarket and an EMS station to the area, as well as an educational campus, which opened in September 2012.
Spring Creek, an East New York section once known for its landfills and undeveloped marshland, has been slowly transformed through various city projects into a community of mixed-income and mixed-use developments including the Starrett City apartments and the Gateway Center shopping complex, among others.
Qualifying New Yorkers can apply via NYC Housing Connect to be placed on the waitlist at Nehemiah Spring Creek until June 17, 2019. Residents of Brooklyn Community Board 5 will be given preference for 50 percent of the units.
After the deadline, applications are selected for review through a lottery process. If yours is selected and you appear to qualify, you will be invited to an appointment of eligibility to continue the process of determining your eligibility. Appointments are usually scheduled from two to ten months after the application deadline.
