Save the Earth -- think globally, but cycle locally is the motto when Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams holds his fifth Bike-to-Work ride on Monday, April 22. The cycling event kicks off to the borough's annual Earth Week celebrations.

This year, Adams is wheeling to his native, Brownsville, to lead dozens of cyclists on a "Tour de Brooklyn," joined by State Senator Zellnor Myrie, Assemblymember Latrice Walker and Councilmember Alicka Ampry-Samuel, and various community groups including The Brown Bike Girl, Pitkin Avenue Business Improvement District, Prospect Heights Neighborhood Development Corporation and Transportation Alternatives, among others.

Prior to their ride, cyclists and safe streets advocates will highlight the positive impact that New Yorkers can have on their local environment by using pedal power to get around the city. The bike-to-work ride is not only a plea for Mother Earth, it is also a rolling rallying-cry for safer cycling infrastructure in Central Brooklyn.

"Earth Day is a reminder of the steps we can all take every single day to reduce our impact on the flora and fauna around us," said Adams. "That includes increasing our use of pedal power. Not only is biking a great way to commute and a therapeutic exercise, it also provides a chance to really see the crevices of our communities."

After the remarks, Adams and participating two-wheelers will bike west from Zion Triangle along Pitkin Avenue, where they will merge onto the malls of Eastern Parkway. The cyclists will then turn right on Kingston Avenue and head north until Bergen Street, where they will continue west to Court Street. After turning right on Warren Street, the ride will conclude down Henry and Remsen Streets, ending up at Brooklyn Borough Hall.
