The city is accepting applications for paid, full-time fellowship positions supporting neighborhood commercial revitalization projects in East New York, Brownsville and Fort Greene, NYC Department of Small Business Services Commissioner Gregg Bishop announced on Monday.
The Neighborhood 360° fellows program, an SBS initiative to strengthen commercial districts, pairs future neighborhood development professionals with selected community organizations and business improvement districts to launch projects related to business attraction and retention, placemaking and merchant organizing. Through proactive planning and targeted investments, Neighborhood 360° supports projects that strengthen and revitalize the streets, small businesses and organizations.
"New York City works best when New Yorkers work together," said Bishop. "With the Neighborhood 360° Fellows program, we've created opportunities for future neighborhood development professionals to use their talents to support community-based organizations and build vibrant communities across the city."
Beginning in June, the fourth cohort of Neighborhood 360° fellows will be dispatched to ten different commercial districts for a 10-month fellowship.
The LDC of East NY/East Brooklyn Business Improvement District, the Brownsville Community Justice Center and the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership are the three Brooklyn organizations to partner with the fellows to enhance their respective neighborhoods.
Fellows selected to participate in the 2019-2020 cohort must be New York City residents, have at least one year of community outreach, organizing or planning experience, and have an interest in economic development.

Adams. "From East New York to Fort Greene, small businesses reflect the diversity and vibrancy of our neighborhoods, and I appreciate this SBS initiative as an effort to provide quality, on-the-ground professional development to young leaders interested in community engagement."
Since the program launched in 2016, a total of 30 New Yorkers have been connected to fellowships citywide, SBS officials stated.
