As the highly-anticipated opening of the Wegmans at the Brooklyn Navy Yard is approaching, the grocer is entering its recruiting and hiring phase.

Located on Flushing Avenue in the Admirals Row development, the 74,000 square-foot supermarket is scheduled to open this fall. The new store will also occupy the second-floor mezzanine with space for a 100-seats in-store market café and bar.

Wegmans seeks to fill approximately 500 jobs, including 150 full-time positions, thereby giving preference to local candidates.

Full-time positions currently available include entry-level management to customer service, overnight grocery, and culinary positions like chefs and line cooks. Select part-time positions for bakery and culinary positions are currently being filled as well; recruitment for all other part-time positions will begin at a later date.

"At Wegmans, you drive your own development and the opportunities are truly what you make of them," said Brooklyn Store Manager Kevin Cuff, who has been with the company for 21 years. "You are more than just a number. You are a family member who has a voice and an opportunity to do whatever it is you are passionate about."

Founded in 1916, Wegmans operates 98 stores in six states and with more than 48,000 employees. The Brooklyn location will be the first in New York City. The company plans to open two more stores in Virginia Beach, Virginia and Raleigh, North Carolina later this year.

Wegmans offers competitive pay and benefits packages, as well as premium pay on Sundays and holidays, and tuition assistance through the company's employee scholarship program.

Interested candidates can now apply online at jobs.wegmans.com, or call 347-652-2424 for more information. Interviews are conducted by appointment only, and applications are not accepted at the store construction site.
