Beginning Wednesday, November 7, Brooklyn comics Marcela Onyango, Marissa Solomon and Roxie Wilson are presenting the monthly series KULTURE: A Comedy and Trivia Extravaganza at Tilly's in Bedford Stuyvesant.

The trio will serve as the evening's masters of ceremony and preside over the trivia portion that will unfold in between stand-up sets performed by an eclectic array of women comedians. In four rounds, guests will get quizzed on the state of current affairs in arts, entertainment, culture and politics with the hope that they may leave the show a little more "kultured."

"Often when you talk about serious topics, people feel like they need to clench and then don't want to let information in," said Onyango, a self-proclaimed political comedian. "But I find that when I do it through comedy, people are more receptive. And I like to humorously keep people updated on what's happening around them in the world."

When she realized the lack of comedy in her own neighborhood of Bed-Stuy, she teamed up with Roxie Wilson, a member of NYC's first and only all-lady hip-hop improv team DMXX, and Marissa Solomon, who is one-half of the sketch duo Freckles.

"We're kind of tired of always having to go to Queens or the Lower East Side for good comedy," said Onyango. "We thought it'd be cool to have something in our neighborhood."

Tilly's, a neighborhood gem, seemed the perfect venue to bring their comedic vision to life that aims to create community, and to provide a platform for other female performers and comedians of color, Onyango shared.

"Black female comedians don't get a lot of attention," she explained. "There are a lot of really good ones out there, and I'm hoping that this show will highlight a lot of them."

KULTURE's first all-female line-up on November 7, features Chanel Ali, who was recently seen in Night Train with Wyatt Cenac and is a regular at Carolines on Broadway and New York Comedy Club; Nash Rose who is a frequent guest at venues like Broadway Comedy Club, West Side Comedy Club and The Stand, as well as Amanda Hunt and Kemi Layeni.

So bring your teams and your wits for a chance to win a random and cool item from one of the fabulous hosts' household. And, of course, to get some kulture.
