Jessica Williams and Phoebe Robinson, also known as "2 Dope Queens," return to the Kings Theatre, on Tuesday, December 4 and Wednesday 5, to film two more specials of their hit comedy podcast slated to premiere on HBO in 2019.
Since the launch of the weekly stand-up and storytelling WNYC podcast in April 2016, the two ladies have been sharing their spotlight with their favorite female and LGBTQ performers and comedians of color. The diverse and inclusive show features a wide range of serious and less serious topics including sex, romance, race, hair journeys, life in New York — and Billy Joel.
Jessica Williams is a writer and performer who has gained critical acclaim with her performances in "The Incredible Jessica James" and "People Places Things", HBO's "Girls" and the Upright Citizens Brigade comedy troupe. In 2012, she joined the cast of Comedy Central's The Daily Show as the show's youngest correspondent. Williams can also be seen in the upcoming "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindewald", "Booksmart" and "Corporate Animals."
Comedian, writer and actor Phoebe Robinson, named by Vulture, Essence and Esquire Magazine as one of the top comedians to watch, has appeared on NBC's "Late Night with Seth Meyers," "Last Call with Carson Daly," Comedy Central's "Broad City" and "@midnight." Robinson can next be seen in the upcoming "What Men Want." She is also the author of The New York Times best-selling book "You Can't Touch My Hair (And Other Things I Still Have to Explain)" and she is gearing up to release her second book "Everything's Trash But It's Okay" on October 16.
HBO first launched the series of specials in February 2018. Also taped at The Kings Theatre, the shows were directed by Tig Notaro and guests included Tituss Burgess, Sarah Jessica Parker, Uzo Aduba and Jon Stewart. Other guests from previous podcasts featured Queen Latifah, Jon Hamm, Iliza Shlesinger, LeVar Burton, Naomi Ekperigin, Vanessa Bayer, Marc Maron and Fred Armisen. Who Williams and Robinson may bring out this time has yet to be announced!
