Former First Lady Michelle Obama just completed her memoir Becoming and announced Wednesday evening that she will be embarking on a 10-city tour this fall — which includes a Brooklyn stop at the Barclays Center on Saturday, December 1.
Obama will be sitting down for "intimate" conversations — all events will take place in the some of the country's biggest arenas — with yet-to-be-announced moderators to discuss her life stories.
"I've spent the last year and a half reflecting on my story as deeply and honestly as I could, and now I'm thrilled to travel the country and do the same with readers this fall," Obama said. "I hope that this tour will inspire others to reflect upon and share their own stories —all the joys and sorrows, all the scars and renewals — so that together, we can better recognize that each of us, in our own way, is in a constant process of becoming."
In her memoir, the former first lady invites readers into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her, from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work, to her time spent at the world's most famous address. Obama tells her story how she lived it, describing her triumphs and disappointments with honesty and wit. Her memoir is the personal reckoning of a woman who has steadily defied expectations and whose story aims to inspire us to do the same.
"I'm proud of the book because it is candid, it is honest, it is totally and utterly me," she said in a Facebook announcement. "I'm also a little frightened because it is so candid, honest and open, but I can't wait to share it with the world."
Brooklynites interested in buying tickets can now register for the pre-sale of tickets until Tuesday, September 18 via Ticketmaster's "Verified Fan" program. Tickets will be available to the public starting Friday, September 21, at 10:00am time at www.BecomingMichelleObama.com. VIP meet and greet packages will also be available through Ticketmaster.
Obama and Live Nation are also donating 10 percent of tickets to charities, schools and community groups, so some fans in each city will be able to attend that tour stop for free.
