Trinidad, represent, represent!

Colorful Caribbean floats representing Haiti, Jamaica, Trinidad, St. Kitts, Dominica, Guyana and more moved down the 2-mile route of Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights, while participants played music and danced to the sounds of reggae, calypso and kompa.

The parade, which started at 11:00am and concluded at Flatbush Avenue at around 5:00pm, usually attracts close to 2 million people. This year's glaring sun and upwards of 90-degree temps seemed to keep many would-be revelers at home or running for shade. Still, even with a more subdued crowd and heavier than usual police presence, the colors and culture shone brightly.

Jerk chicken, sweetbread, oxtail, grilled corn, pholourie, bake, soursop all were in effect. And of course, all the wining and flag-waving to give anyone in attendance a glimpse at the pride, love and joy the Caribbean islands inspire.
