The ‘mindful triathlon’ celebrates, which combines a 5K run, a yoga session and a guided meditation, has been attracting thousands of participants each year.
Sometimes you don’t have to travel far to satisfy your wanderlust.
Wanderlust 108, “the world’s only mindful triathlon” is a daylong celebration of mindfulness and wellness that combines a 5K run/walk, a DJ-powered yoga session and guided meditation, and it returns to Prospect Park on Sunday, September 9.
“It is “a festival for grownups, for people who are seeking balance in their lives,” said founder Sean Hoess to Metro NYC.
With his fellow co-founders, Hoess has been hosting Wanderlust events all over the world since starting the mindfulness company in 2009. Since its first installment in Brooklyn five years ago, the triathlon has been attracting thousands of “mindful athletes” each year.
After a brief pre-run stretch, the day officially kicks off at 9:00am with a walk/ run around Prospect Park’s Nethermead. Festival vibes may come up in the following yoga session that will be guided by some of the nation’s top yoga instructors and accompanied with an eclectic mix of electronic dance music, hip-hop, funk, soul and reggae provided by DJ Sol Rising. The triathlon culminates with a 25-minute long mindful meditation guided by meditation master Melissa McKay at 12:15pm.
Following the triathlon, participants can choose from a slew of bonus activities including aerial yoga, essential oils, acro yoga, tarot 101, bodywork and more to continue their mindful adventures. These activities can either be booked prior as part of different packages or joined on a drop-in basis at an additional cost. The Wanderlust Kula Market welcomes local artisans and as well as fitness and wellness sponsors handing out free samples., and theTrue North Cafe offers a bevy of healthy snack or lunch options.
General admission tickets start at $52.00 and give access to the run/ yoga/ meditation sessions with the option to book additional bonus activities on a drop-in basis. A premium bundle is available for $99.00 and includes access to bonus activities as well as goodies such as a Wanderlust yoga mat and tote.
