Lee and Sway Calloway will serve as the masters of ceremony, while DJ Spinna will be playing classics from Prince’s extensive music catalog.
Spike Lees annual celebration of Prince, The Third Annual Prince Born Day Purple People Party, will return this Saturday, June 9, to the Republic of Brooklyn, as the filmmaker announced via social media. From 12:00pm to 7:00pm Bed-Stuys Restoration Plaza will be taken over by thousands of fans rocking purple and celebrating the late superstar’s life, music and legacy.
Lee hosted a first Prince block party outside his 40 Acres & a Mule Filmworks offices the day after the untimely death of the music legend in April 2016. Two months later, in honor of the maestro’s birthday on June 7, Lee then kicked off the annual Prince Born Day Purple People Party, calling it a born day celebration since Prince, a Jehova’s Witness, didn’t celebrate birthdays.
As in previous years, Lee will be joined by Radio/ TV personality Sway Calloway to serve as the master of ceremony. Brooklyn’s own DJ Spinna will be providing the soundtrack consisting of the finest tunes of Prince’s extensive music catalog. The party is entirely free to attend, keeping in the tradition of Princes long history for charitable contributions and community events.
All it is left is for you to do is to show up with your funky, purple gear and proper footwear to dance the afternoon away.
The Prince Born Day Party is set for June 9, from 12:00pm to 7:00 pm at Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Plaza, located at Herkimer Street between New York and Brooklyn avenues.
