Afropunk will return to Commodore Barry Park on August 25 and 26, and they just revealed the final lineup. Joining headliners Janelle Monae, Erykah Badu, Ibeyi, Miguel and Tyler the Creator, who were announced earlier in March, are producers and DJ heavyweights Kaytranada and Just Blaze.
Also taking the Afropunk stages are newly announced Theo Parish and Honey Dijon, adding to the exquisite lineup that boasts acts like The Internet, Jaden and Willow Smith, Duckwrt, Smino, JPEGMAFIA and H.E.R..
This year's festival will also feature the DJ-dedicated Gold Stage on Saturday and a special "Sistas That Rock" performance headlined by Toshi Reagon.
Born out of the neighborhoods of Brooklyn, the festival has since spread across the U.S., to U.K., France and South Africa. Since its founding, the goal of AFROPUNK Festival has been to connect people who share a musical mindset of freedom and unfiltered creative expression. In keeping with its mission, the organizers announced this year's theme: THE PEOPLE RESIST.
"We, the people who have lived under the thumb of white supremacy, gender inequality, homophobia, environmental rape and economic apartheid have always known that when the world is an outrage, the sensible thing to do is defy it," said the event's organizers. "Resistance is survival, not just a hashtag. But if it's going to be a social media call to political arms, let's make that fucker count! The People Resist because there's nothing else left to do now."

Because after party comes the afterparty, Afropunk also just announced Afropunk After Dark, a series of parties which will keep you going at various Brooklyn clubs including C'mon Everybody, Baby's All Right and Putnam's. Events will take place both nights; the lineups are still TBA, but tickets are already on sale.
