A fun-filled day of health and wellness for teenagers comes to Woodhull Hospital on Saturday, April 21. In conjunction with MetroPlus Health Plan and Woodhull's YouthHealth program, the MetroTeen Health Fair will provide information, tips and resources to educate youths on how to address health issues and care for their own wellness. The free event will be held at NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull, located at 760 Broadway in Bedford Stuyvesant.

"We want our MetroPlus teens to know MetroPlus Health Plan cares about their health and wellness, and we are here to help," said Rekha Chacko, care manager, Quality management team, MetroPlus. "We want to create an awareness of MetroPlus's resources and connect with our members."

The day-long fair will feature health and dental screenings, games, arts and crafts, music and dance sessions. While the MetroTeen Health Fair is geared toward MetroPlus members between the ages of 12-21, if non-members are interested in signing up for coverage through the health care provider, they can get screened for eligibility and apply at the event. Attendees younger than 18 years old should bring a parent or guardian, as they need consent to get a dental screening, physical and other services.

NYC Health + Hospitals is the public health care system of hospitals and neighborhood health centers in New York City that includes YouthHealth services for adolescents. The MetroTeen Health Fair is one of a series of initiatives MetroPlus and NYC Health + Hospitals are collaborating on to bring health and wellness services to members, patients and the community.

The NYC Health + Hospital's YouthHealth is part of this effort, and it provides services specifically geared toward the needs of adolescents including primary care, mental health and depression help, sexual and reproductive services, LGBTQ care and healthy weight management, among others. NYC Health + Hospitals currently offers the YouthHealth program at five locations in Brooklyn including Woodhull Hospital and Kings County Hospital.
