Les Nubians, the Grammy Award-nominated sister duo known for its unique fusion neo-soul and African rhythm-infused hip-hop, are returning to BRIC on Thursday, March 1. Titled Up Close & Personal, the evening will be an intimate performance of classic and new Les Nubians songs, accompanied by live visuals and storytelling.

Les Nubians are a self-described Afropean, R&B duo composed of the two sisters Hélène and Célia Faussart. The ladies, originally hailing from Paris, have worked and lived in Paris, Bordeaux, Chad and now in Brooklyn. With roots in slam poetry, a cappella singing and backup vocals for other artists, Les Nubians remain one of the most exciting and well-respected French-language, Afropean artists in the music industry.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the very first acclaimed Les Nubians album, Princesses Nubiennes. To celebrate this special time, they've put together a show featuring some of their most beloved works along with new songs and will be touring in the US, Africa and Europe throughout the year.

Brooklyn's dream-funk ensemble IGBO will kick things off on the Stoop, performing songs from their forthcoming full-length release, Live. Featuring a six-piece groove-a-thon band, IGBO has sold out shows all around NYC. DJ Joe Crispiano, Dap Kings guitarist and rare soul enthusiast, will set the mood for the evening in the gallery.

The concert is co-curated with Joan Osborne's Womanly Hips Presents, named after the singer's independent record label during the 1990s. Thursday's event will be the kick off for a year-long series, celebrating established and emerging female artists. Upcoming acts include Birds of Chicago, a husband-and-wife-led band that mixes folk, mountain gospel and soul, Jamila Woods, powerful, once-in-a-generation soul and R&B singer-songwriter and poet who will present her debut album HEAVN.
