Brooklyn Public Library, in partnership with STooPS Bed-Stuy is accepting applications for its Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program. The program sponsors residencies for approximately six to eight local artists from Bedford Stuyvesant and Crown Heights and includes stipends, supplies and studio space at Macon and Eastern Parkway libraries.

Residencies last from four to ten weeks and give artists the opportunity to become part of a dynamic artistic community, allowing for exchange and collaborative relationships to develop between the artists and Brooklyn Public Library. The artist in residence will be expected to either create a piece of art to be displayed in the African American Heritage Center or lead a workshop or program that brings art to the residents of the Bed-Stuy and Crown Heights communities. Additionally, all artists in the program will be invited to enter a piece as part of the STooPS Artists program in Summer/Fall 2018. A conduit for community building and artistic experimentation, Bed-Stuy STooPS shares resources and re-imagines spaces such as Bed-Stuy’s stoops for public engagement.

Artists selected for this program are at all stages in their careers and work in all media including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, film, video, new media, installation, fiction and nonfiction writing, poetry, dance, music, interdisciplinary, social practice and architecture.

The residency program takes place from March to August 2018. The application process is open now through February 28, 2018. For more information or to apply, go here.
