Borough President Adams enjoyed a tasting at the first-ever Plantsgiving celebration in the Community Room of Brooklyn Borough Hall, featuring an array of live performances from world-class artists, a chef cook-off, samplings from vegan restaurants across the city, as well as a discussion on healthy food access featuring plant-based activists such as retired NFL linebacker David Carter (right).

People in his office will tell you: Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams does not play around, when it comes to clean-eating!

"He's always bouncing through the office trying to get us to try a healthy news snack," said Lori Louis, BP Adams's director of strategic alliances and marketing. "He wants us all to eventually switch [to a plant-based diet]."

Last year, Adams shared his journey with BK Reader. After being diagnosed with Type-2 Diabetes, he started reading and researching and learned that his health had entirely to do with the foods he was eating. He learned how to identify certain foods-- plants-- as medicine that could actually heal a variety of illnesses. Within eight months on a plant-based diet, Adams lost 30 pounds! Not only that, he was able to reverse his high glucose numbers to normal levels.

"While medications are important for the treatment of diabetes, nothing seems to trump lifestyle modifications. Diet, especially, can play both prevention and reversal roles," said David M. Dunaief, M.D., an internist specializing in lifestyle medicine who practices in Brooklyn Heights. "In my clinical practice, I have seen many diabetes patients successfully reverse their disease."

Now, Adams is making it his business to get the borough to eat better too. On February 5, from 6:00pm - 8:00pm, he will host the second in a series of Plant-Based/Vegan Meetups in the Courtroom of Brooklyn Borough Hall, located at 209 Joralemon St. in downtown Brooklyn.

The event will feature a panel discussion of plant-based/vegan nutrition advocates, professionals and stakeholders discussing ideas for advancing healthy plant-based nutrition. The nutritionists also will share ideas and information on plant-based opportunities, as well as networking and a reception featuring delicious treats from plant-based/vegan businesses in Brooklyn.

Don't miss this chance to learn more about how you can cook nutritious meals, eat well, and take care of your health for free! Courtesy, your Borough President!
