Latke Lovers around the city came out to celebrate the creative interpretations of the potato pancake!

Winners of the 9th Annual Latke Festival

In what is becoming a Brooklyn tradition, the New York City catering company, Great Performances, hosted the 9th Annual Latke Festival on Monday, December 18, at the Brooklyn Museum.

The Latke Festival, benefits The Sylvia Center, a NYC, nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching healthy eating habits to children and their families. Monday's festival brought a diverse group of New Yorkers together, at the close of Chanukah, to celebrate the best latkes and creative interpretations of a potato pancake found citywide.

There were 23 participating restaurants , all competing for the honor of "Best Latke in New York." New York City Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen was on the judges panel. When asked if she had tried all 23 iterations of the fried potato, she answered, "I am trying to, but I think I have a happy stomach ache now."

David Berliner, president and chief operating officer of the museum, announced "The winner of the gold, a delicious, delicate, and tender, yet strong and crisp, a hefty structure with a sweet and sour balance is Benchmark!"

Located in the heart of Park Slope, Benchmark Restaurant features New American cuisine focused on pasture-raised animals and locally-grown produce.
